## Commits
Use Conventional Commits: `<type>(<scope>): <subject>` (≤72 chars), then a body explaining the *why*. Types: `feat`, `fix`, `chore`, `docs`, `refactor`, `test`.

What is an AGENTS.md file?
An AGENTS.mdis a plain-markdown file at the root of your repository that tells AI coding agents how to work in your project: the tech stack, the key commands, your conventions, and the anti-patterns to avoid. It's become a de-facto standard used across Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and other agents. CLAUDE.md is the same idea with the filename Claude Code reads first — this tool generates either.
How to use this generator
- Pick your output file (AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md).
- Fill in your project name, type, languages, and key commands.
- Add your conventions (do's) and anti-patterns(don'ts) — the rules an agent most needs.
- Copy or download the result and drop it at the root of your repo.
What makes a good agent rules file
The same principle behind spec-driven AI applies: an agent rules file is a spec for how to work in your codebase. The best ones are:
- Thin. ~30–60 lines of high-signal rules, not exhaustive docs. This tool omits empty sections to keep it lean.
- Specific. Name real commands, real paths, real conventions — not generic best practices the agent already knows.
- Constraint-first. The anti-patterns section (what notto do) is often more valuable than the do's — it prevents wrong-but-plausible output.
- Current. Update it when a convention changes, so the agent stays aligned.
Frequently asked questions
What is an AGENTS.md file?
AGENTS.md is a plain-markdown file at the root of your repo that tells AI coding agents how to work in your project — the stack, the commands, your conventions, and what to avoid. It's become a de-facto standard used by tens of thousands of open-source projects and works across Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and more.
What's the difference between AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md?
They serve the same purpose — instructions for an AI coding agent. AGENTS.md is the cross-tool convention; CLAUDE.md is the filename Claude Code reads first. Many tools support both. This generator outputs either — just flip the toggle.
Does this tool use AI or cost anything?
No. It's a template assembler that runs entirely in your browser — no AI, no API tokens, no login, no cost. It arranges your inputs into the proven structure. Nothing is sent anywhere.
How long should an AGENTS.md be?
Keep it thin — roughly 30–60 lines. The goal is the high-signal rules an agent needs, not exhaustive documentation. This generator omits empty sections so the output stays lean.
